Fall Reflection from Sentinel Bridge, Yosemite National Park
This scene from Yosemite National Park was one of the richest scenes of fall color I have had the pleasure of witnessing. It was also one of the most technically demanding scenes to photograph. My light meter indicated a 3 to 4 stop difference in exposure between the reflection in the river and the trees above it. Usually that would be straightforward enough, except the cliffs behind the river were dimmer than the trees. Because of the complex light, I knew I needed to use color negative film for this scene, and I had to balance my exposure to keep both highlights and the shadows within the dynamic range of Kodak Ektar. I played around with the graduated filter placement and bracketed several exposures.
